4 Days: Akagera Self-Drive Safari

Game drives on your own schedule in Rwanda's only savannah park, with a pop-up roof for the best views.

1. Day1

   Kigali → Akagera

   Drive east through Kayonza to the park's southern gate. Check in at the reception, then take a first afternoon game drive along the lakes.

   • Overnight: Akagera
2. Day2

   The southern lakes

   An early start for the best light. Follow the shores of Lake Ihema, where hippos, buffalo and elephants come to drink. Ask about a boat trip on the lake.

3. Day3

   The northern plains

   Head north across the open savannah for giraffes, zebras and, with luck, lions. Take a packed lunch and plenty of water.

   • Overnight: Akagera
4. Day4

   Akagera → Kigali

   A last morning drive, then back to Kigali to return the car at the airport or your hotel.

   • Car return: Kigali
