6 Days: Primates of Rwanda

Gorillas, golden monkeys and chimpanzees, from the volcanoes to the rainforest.

1. Day1

   Kigali → Musanze

   Drive north to Musanze and settle in near the park.

   • ≈ 2.5 hrs
   • ≈ 95 km
   • Overnight: Musanze
2. Day2

   Gorilla trekking

   Leave around 6:00 am for park headquarters at Kinigi, about 30 minutes from Musanze. The briefing starts at 7:00. Treks take three to five hours, and you spend a full hour with the gorilla family. Rest in the afternoon.

3. Day3

   Golden monkeys

   Track golden monkeys in the bamboo forest from Kinigi. The trek is shorter and easier than for gorillas.

4. Day4

   Musanze → Kibuye

   Drive to Lake Kivu and south along the lakeshore road to Kibuye.

   • ≈ 3.5 hrs
   • Overnight: Kibuye
5. Day5

   Kibuye → Nyungwe

   Continue south along the lake, then climb into the rainforest. Walk the canopy walkway in the afternoon.

   • ≈ 4 hrs
   • Overnight: Nyungwe
6. Day6

   Chimps & back to Kigali

   An early chimpanzee trek, then the long drive back to Kigali through Huye.

   • Car return: Kigali
